Portfolios assigned for the new board

The newly elected 2020-2024 board held its first meeting under the president and restructured several of the federation's committees.

The Basketball Association has begun a new phase after the first meeting of the newly elected board for the 2020-2024 term, chaired by federation president Major General Ismail Al Qarqawi, following a number of changes to the federation's committees and to the statutes now in force. Portfolios were assigned as follows: Major General Ismail Al Qarqawi as president and official spokesman, as well as chairman of the finance and marketing committee; Abdullatif Al Fardan as vice-president and chairman of the national teams committee; Mohammed Abdullah Al Haj as head of the executive office, finance director and chairman of the technical committee; Salem Al Mutawa as secretary general; new board member Mansour Al Hashemi as assistant secretary general; board member Farid Al Qaiwani as chairman of the media and digital transformation committee; new board member Hamdan Saeed as chairman of the players and clubs affairs committee; new board member Ali Hassan Al Ameri as chairman of the operations and follow-up committee; and board member Maitha bin Dawi as chair of the women's basketball committee.

The board also established, for the first time in the Arab world and the Middle East, a 3x3 basketball league, naming Khalid Al Hanaei as its head — a step that underlines the promising future of the format given Al Hanaei's considerable experience. The appeals committee was assigned to Badr Al Hammadi, the disciplinary committee to Walid Bani Hammad, and the referees affairs committee to Dawood Al Tamimi, which is responsible for appointing officials to matches and to every competition under the federation's umbrella, with the officiating affairs committee going to Hussein Al Balushi to develop standards. It is the first time two separate committees have been formed for referees and for officiating.

The board also renewed its confidence in Dr Mounir Ben Habib as technical director of the national teams and technical director of the federation, given his considerable experience in the field.

Major General Ismail Al Qarqawi expressed his ambition that the new term be an opportunity for proper development under the new system, noting that there are instructions to draw on people from outside the board for greater transparency. Once the make-up is finally settled, each committee will draw up its own working list to put before the board for final approval, so that all can set about producing their best in their own field.
