Constructive debate at the general assembly

The federation's 19th ordinary general assembly met in Dubai under the president, with every member club present.
The 19th ordinary general assembly of the Basketball Association was held on Tuesday evening at the InterContinental hotel in Dubai under the chairmanship of Major General Ismail Al Qarqawi. Quorum was reached with all 15 member clubs entitled to vote in attendance.
The meeting ratified the minutes of the 18th general assembly and approved the administrative, technical and financial reports. It also approved the membership of Al Hamriyah Cultural and Sports Club and of Dibba Al Hisn. Board proposals were discussed and centred on several points, with members agreeing to retain two overseas players in each men's league squad.
It was agreed to amend the documents required on the registration form for resident players over 18, requiring continuous residence in the country for one year. The transfer system for players over 30 was abolished, keeping them at their clubs rather than allowing free movement as a previous general assembly had decided.
Discussion was conducted with complete transparency and allowed every differing view to be expressed in the interests of the game's future. Several clubs submitted proposals, which were referred to the relevant federation committees.
