Twenty-first ordinary general assembly held in Ramadan

The federation's 21st ordinary general assembly met in Dubai under the president, passing its agenda once quorum was confirmed.
The 21st ordinary general assembly of the Basketball Association was held under the chairmanship of Major General Ismail Al Qarqawi, once quorum was confirmed, in the Al Wasl hall at Le Méridien Airport Hotel in Dubai. The assembly ratified the minutes of the previous meeting and approved the administrative, technical and financial reports.
The meeting was marked by strong solidarity and cooperation from the clubs under the federation's umbrella on the need to support it in every respect so that it can carry out its mandate to develop the game. Members congratulated the federation on its current progress and on the considerable development seen in particular at national team level.
Al Qarqawi praised the significant and positive part the country's clubs play in supporting the national teams, and announced the cancellation of the financial penalties imposed on every club in the country over recent periods — a gesture of support for the game in the clubs, and a recognition of the national teams' recent results: the men's gold medal at the Gulf Games in Kuwait, qualification for the final stage of the 2025 Asia Cup qualifiers after a strong showing in Qatar, and the women's 3x3 gold at the Gulf Games in Kuwait.
Discussion among members was constructive and conducted in a notably open atmosphere. Clubs put forward close to 55 proposals, all referred to the technical committee for study, aimed at raising standards across every age group.
The session was run by secretary general Salem Al Mutawa and attended by Abdulaziz Al Hassan for the General Authority of Sports and Nasser Salmeen for the National Olympic Committee.
Al Qarqawi said he was pleased with the strong attendance: “Our shared aim is to develop the game. What has been achieved recently pushes all of us to continue the work that ultimately gives the game an international presence and raises the name and flag of our country in every forum.”
He asked the clubs for more: “We must give attention to the age groups, which are the backbone, by seeking out coaches and administrators of real quality to build generations that will serve the game.”
Explaining the decision to cancel this season's financial penalties, he said: “Despite our need for those sums, which were levied on the clubs during the season for various infringements, I felt this was a good occasion in Ramadan — given the creditable results of our national teams and clubs abroad — to open a new page under the heading of cooperation between everyone, and for the federation to ease the financial burden on some of our clubs after the difficult conditions the world faced during the coronavirus pandemic.”
