General assembly debates the future of the game

Seventeen member clubs attended the ordinary general assembly in Dubai, which approved a series of decisions after extended discussion.
The ordinary general assembly of the UAE Basketball Association, held at the Marriott Al Jaddaf hotel under the chairmanship of Major General Ismail Al Qarqawi, approved a number of decisions after extensive discussion, with 17 of the 18 member clubs present.
The assembly ratified the minutes of the previous general assembly of 17 April 2019, and approved the administrative, technical and financial reports.
Four club proposals were discussed: players over 30; reducing overseas players from two to one; the conditions for registering resident players over 18; and the question of professional women players in the coming season's women's competition.
A large number of members gave their views on every subject affecting the game and its development, in a discussion involving the federation's board members and Abdullah Hassan Al Hammadi, representing the General Authority of Sports.
Secretary general Salem Al Mutawa said: “On the first item, players over 30, the previous decision allowing players free movement once they pass that age was retained by a majority of the general assembly, and a player may transfer as long as no contract is in force.”
On overseas players, Al Mutawa explained that the majority kept the previous regulation, with two overseas players in each men's squad.
