Board meets remotely to review the game

The federation board met online under the president to discuss a range of matters for the period ahead.

The board of the UAE Basketball Association held a remote meeting chaired by Major General Ismail Al Qarqawi to discuss a range of matters concerning the game in the period ahead.

It is the board's first meeting in the current period, amid the global health crisis following the spread of coronavirus, and came after two meetings with the club coaches and basketball supervisors.

Al Qarqawi opened the meeting by congratulating the board members on the holy month of Ramadan, wishing everyone good health and praying for the end of the pandemic that has struck the world.

“The federation has held a series of remote virtual meetings in record time in order to set out an important vision for the period ahead, and the approach was to meet the coaches and men's teams in our league to discuss the best proposal for completing activity and returning before the new season begins,” he said.

He added: “The coaches' meeting was attended by Abdulhamid Ibrahim of Sharjah, Ahmed Omar of Al Nasr, Zoran of Al Wasl, Giorgio of Shabab Al Ahli, Amr Abu Al Khair of Bani Yas, Misho of Al Bataeh, Ali Al Shatti of Al Dhafra and Nidal Bakri of Al Wahda, while the Al Ain coach sent his apologies as he was undergoing surgery and the Al Jazira coach had travelled home to Serbia.”

Al Qarqawi explained that the day after the coaches' meeting, a meeting was held with the clubs' sports supervisors, attended by Qassem Mohammed of Al Nasr, Adnan Al Khayyal of Sharjah, Abdullah Faraj of Al Jazira, Mohammed Abdulhamid of Al Wahda, Hassan Al Hammadi and Ammar Muammar of Al Dhafra, Mohammed Halees of Al Bataeh, and the Bani Yas administrator Jasim.

He noted that at these two meetings, as well as at the board meeting, a proposal for a phased return of activity was presented, adding that the coaches were unanimous on the proposal discussed and on the period they would need to bring the players back to fitness.

He revealed that the supervisors had some additional discussion and proposals on the administrative side, and that it was decided to refer all these recommendations from every party to the board, which took all of these views into account.
