The Arab champions breathe again

A win over Al Wathba revives their hopes of qualifying

Al Ittihad Alexandria, the Arab champions, recorded their first win at the Dubai International Basketball Championship, beating Al Wathba of Syria 96-64 and reviving their hopes of reaching the quarter-finals — provided they beat American University in Dubai in their closing preliminary-round match.

The quarters finished 27-18, 20-12, 25-13 and 24-21. Al Ittihad Alexandria produced a better performance than in their previous matches.

Mohammed Mosleh, chairman of Al Ittihad Alexandria, was keen to watch the game.
