Sharjah win the Federation Cup

Sharjah took the open Federation Cup with an 82-77 win over Al Bataeh in an all-emirate derby at Al Bataeh's hall.
Sharjah's men were crowned winners of the open Federation Cup after beating Al Bataeh 82-77 in an all-emirate derby at Al Bataeh Cultural and Sports Club's hall, the first competition of the 2021/22 season.
The champions and runners-up received their awards from federation president Major General Ismail Al Qarqawi, Issa Hilal, chairman of Sharjah Sports Council, Ali Salem Al Midfa, chairman of Sharjah club, and federation vice-president Abdullatif Al Fardan.
The win adds another title to Sharjah's domestic and international basketball record, taking them to 23 in the club's history — six of them in the last three seasons alone. They comprise seven general league shields, nine President's Cups, two UAE Super Cups, one open Federation Cup and one Vice President's Cup, along with two Gulf Clubs Championships and one Arab Clubs Championship.
The match was strong and hung in the balance until the closing seconds, which Sharjah settled through the considerable experience of their players. The quarters finished 25-18, 11-23, 23-22 and 18-19, and the game was handled by an international crew of Hassan Haji, Mohieddine Khattab and Salem Al Zaabi.
It is the first time Al Bataeh have reached a competition final, being one of the country's newer clubs, having started out in 2018/19.
Al Wasl took third place after beating Al Nasr 79-73.
