Sharjah and Shabab Al Ahli stay locked at the top; Al Nasr sweep past Al Ain
Both leaders won again — over Al Wasl and Al Jazira respectively — in round eight of the second half of the season.
Shabab Al Ahli and Sharjah continued their contest for the top of the UAE men's basketball league, beating Al Wasl and Al Jazira respectively in round eight of the second half of the season.
Shabab Al Ahli beat Al Wasl 87-53 to reach 33 points at the top, while Al Wasl held fifth on 25.
Sharjah beat Al Jazira 99-74 to share the lead with Shabab Al Ahli on the same total, with Al Jazira remaining eighth on 21 points.
Al Nasr swept aside visitors Al Ain by 59 points, the match finishing 108-49, holding third place on 31 points while Al Ain stayed bottom on just 17.
Al Bataeh welcomed visitors Al Wahda with a 74-63 win, moving to 28 points in fourth, while Al Wahda remained ninth on 20.
Al Dhafra recorded another win, this time over the inconsistent Bani Yas, 69-61. The result lifted Al Dhafra to seventh on 23 points, while Bani Yas, despite the defeat, stayed sixth on 24.
The preliminary stage of the UAE men's basketball league closes next Thursday with five matches played simultaneously in round 18.
Sharjah travel to Al Wahda as difficult visitors, while Shabab Al Ahli face Al Nasr in the round's leading fixture; Bani Yas host Al Bataeh, Al Dhafra travel to Al Ain in a hard match for both, and Al Wasl visit Al Jazira.
All matches tip off at the same time, 19:00 UAE time.
The results of this round will determine the eight teams reaching the quarter-finals of the UAE basketball league, which begin in the middle of this month.
