Dubai Duty Free partnership renewed

The federation president announced the renewal of its partnership with Dubai Duty Free ahead of the 24th Arab men's championship.

Major General Ismail Al Qarqawi, president of the UAE and Arab basketball federations, has announced the renewal of the federation's partnership with Dubai Duty Free ahead of the 24th Arab men's championship, which begins on the eighth of next month.

Speaking at a press conference, Al Qarqawi said he was pleased with the partnership and thanked His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, chairman of Emirates Airline, for his support of sport in general and basketball in particular over many years. “The relationship between the federation and Dubai Duty Free has become firm and long-standing, running more than three decades, and has brought us together at the Dubai International since 1989.”

He added: “We thank the board of Al Nasr under chairman Marwan bin Ghalita for what it is providing to make a success of this major Arab event, which runs from 8 to 16 November; every element of success will be made available for this edition at the home of Al Ameed. We receive considerable support from Dubai Sports Council and Emirates Airline throughout our long journey with the game, which confirms the cohesion between our institutions.”

Also at the conference were Ramesh Cidambi, chief operating officer of Dubai Duty Free, Salah Tahlak, executive vice-president for corporate services, tournament director Mohammed Abdullah Al Haj, federation secretary general Salem Al Mutawa and board member Farid Al Qaiwani.

Tournament director Mohammed Abdullah Al Haj said: “We will see a different Arab edition held on Emirati soil, with eight teams so far, under strict measures given the current global health situation.”

Salah Tahlak said he was pleased with the renewal of a partnership stretching more than three decades, during which many successes had been achieved that still resonate today, and that on those grounds they had not hesitated to crown the partnership at the 24th Arab national teams championship, held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, chairman of Dubai Sports Council, and for the cup of the late Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, a pioneer of humanitarian and charitable work and chairman of Al Nasr, the doyen of Emirati clubs.
