Al Qarqawi congratulates Al Nasr on the youth title and urges clubs to invest in age groups

Al Nasr's young side won the national youth league with an 83-70 win away to Sharjah.

Al Nasr's young side won the UAE national youth basketball league after beating hosts Sharjah 83-70.

After the match, Major General Ismail Al Qarqawi, president of the UAE and Arab basketball federations, who attended the game, said he was pleased with the standard of the youth league final.

He congratulated Al Nasr's board, players and technical staff on the title, saying Al Nasr deserved the win as their players stood out technically during the match.

“It was a thoroughly enjoyable match from both sides, and closely contested from first to last,” he added.

Al Qarqawi also congratulated Sharjah on the standard they produced, wishing them better fortune in the competitions ahead.

He said the Emirates has good raw material but that it needs focus from the clubs, calling on every team to give more attention and care to the age groups as a principal feeder for the UAE national team and the clubs.

He closed by saying: “I call on all the clubs to give more attention to the age groups, as the foundation on which the future of the game is built.”
