UAE rise to the occasion and beat the Arab runners-up
A 93-78 win over Beirut, built on organised defence, gave the national team its first win in Group B.
The UAE recorded a first win in Group B by beating Beirut, the Arab runners-up, by 15 points, 93-78.
Defence played a large part in the win. The team was organised at that end, having learnt from the errors it made in its matches against Mighty Sports and Ezzahra Sports.
At the same time the Lebanese star Fadi El Khatib played an important part, scoring 31 points and leading the team with his long experience. He was helped by the high physical and technical condition of the Emirati players, particularly Omar Khalid with 20 points and Qais Omar with 17.
The UAE made eight three-pointers from 23 attempts, against 11 from 28.
